Dr. Spock’s Baby
Ann Hulbert on the “Baby and Child Care” author, Dr. Benjamin Spock, who offered children and parents a welcome end to scolding and strictures. “Trust yourself,” he told parents in the famous opening paragraphs of his classic 1946 book.
At dinner with Dr. Spock and his acupuncturist Sachi: "Sachi serenely said that she could see all the food sparkling with energy, and that she had prayed to her swordfish before biting into him. 'I could just tell somehow it was a he,' she commented, and Morgan agreed, saying, 'I saw him in the kitchen and he had a very masculine eye.'"
