Should creative writing be taught?
"Writing cannot be taught but writers can be encouraged," the Iowa Writers' Workshop proclaims. Allen Tate complained that "the academically certified Creative Writer produces other Creative Writers who are not writers." Kay Boyle argued all such programs "ought to be abolished by law." She taught creative writing for sixteen years.
