Youngthing
Short story, set in Mogadishu, Somalia, about an encounter between a young insurgent soldier and an old man.
Nuruddin Farah's YoungThing is small in stature, large in ambition. He answers to the nickname an instructor gave him when, upset with the boy, he pulled him up by the scruff of his neck: "Waxyahow yar!"—"You young thing!" He carries a carryall bigger and heavier than he is toward the Qiblah.
