Brother Ping grew up in a Hong Kong squatters' settlement as floods, droughts, and typhoons devastated his village. By nine he was watching gambling games; by thirteen playing for stakes. His neighbors gave him a nickname he never liked: Lang Tou Ping—Inveterate Gambler Ping. He would later recruit high-rollers for Macau's casinos.
